Sookie the Brand New Doggy!

Sookie was finally groomed today! It's amazing, as she doesn't even look like the same dog. Here are before and after pictures to show how different she looks (You'll probably recognize the first photo from a post a few days ago):

It's a miracle!

Our groomer does such a good job with her, also considering the fact that she is not exactly the easiest dog to groom. Even the groomer at PetSmart was not able to do much with her because she was so fidgety! However, I'm sure Sookie is also less stressed out now than when she was at PetSmart as the groomer we currently use comes to our home so she is not in an entirely different place. And the fact that there are no other dogs there to make her even more anxious is also a big plus!

"Can't you just let me sleep, Mom??"

Of course, I just had to put a bow in Sookie's hair afterwards to show how much prettier she looks wearing it now than in the 'before' picture with all the hair in her face. As you can see she was very tired from all the chaos of the morning. This was a good thing for me, as it was much easier to put the bow in this time since she was too sleepy to move around that much!

Sookie's New Bows

I ordered 24 doggy bows about five days ago, and today they arrived in the mail! They only cost $12 altogether (including shipping), which is very cheap considering that I've seen just one set of bows costing around the same price at PetSmart and on Amazon. Lynn Tatro, who I highly recommend, is the seller I purchased them from.

I didn't realize that I would receive Halloween-styled bows as well (bag on the right). How cool!

Of course, I had to immediately tie a pair of bows into Sookie's hair and take pictures. She wasn't too crazy about them (this is the first time we've placed bows in her hair) and moved a lot when I attempted to put them in, so that is why they don't exactly look perfect.

It is also not hard to tell that Sookie still hasn't been groomed, either, but we finally did set up an appointment for the mobile groomer to stop by this coming Monday. Hopefully by then she will look so much better with the bows - I just have to remember to tell the groomer to keep the hair on her head long enough so that she will still be able to wear them.

Bath Time

I gave Sookie a bath tonight, which she was not very happy about. She is not really one for being put in a tub and having water poured down all over her. I tried to get a decent picture of her in there, but she wanted to get out of the tub so badly and was moving around so much that this was the best I could do:

When she gets a bath she has to have a prescription shampoo rubbed onto her skin that helps to get rid of her acne. It has to be left on her for around ten minutes, so her bath lasts a bit longer than a normal dog's which of course does not help matters at all. Sookie has to stay in the bathroom while the shampoo sets into her skin as she'll rub the shampoo all over the carpet and furniture if I let her roam around. She dislikes this just as much as the bath itself- actually probably even more.

"When can I get out of here, mom??"

However, once I let her out the door after I've washed off the shampoo and dried her, she gets so excited and just goes insane! Here is the video I captured of her on the bed right after she was finished her bath (Sorry for the loud singing in the background, I think The Voice was on the TV at the time):

Wordy Wednesday

Sherbet was finally neutered several days ago, but you would never be able to tell that he recently had surgery just by looking at him. We thought that once he was neutered he would not act as crazy and try to attack play with people so much, but that theory died immediately when my brother brought him to our house yesterday (which was our first time seeing him after his surgery). I've already received a few bite marks on my hands and arms, but none that have broken skin- YET.

Despite his sometimes psychotic behavior we did miss him terribly while he was gone, though, as he brings a lot of laughter and fun to our home. In the pictures below, he is being his usual entertaining little self and demonstrating how to play with a toy mouse in a step-by-step fashion.

Step one: Find a toy.

Step two: Focus on the toy and reach out for it.

Step three: Grab the toy and look around to make sure no one is going to steal it from you.

Step four: Kill it!

Rage the Gentle Giant

Rage

I was pet-sitting a very sweet doggy at my house two nights ago. The furries were not very happy having another dog here, though; we had to keep Sookie and the cats in different rooms, as we didn't trust having this big dog around our much smaller animals. However, even behind the baby gate Sookie was acting much more aggressive towards Rage (the other dog) than she was with Sookie. Rage just appeared to want to play with her, while Sookie kept barking warningly and growling. Even though she is tiny, Sookie can be one tough cookie and understandably doesn't like strange animals- particularly other dogs- in her house.

Unlike the furbabies, the humans of the house LOVED having Rage here. Contrary to her name, she is a sweetheart and was so well behaved. She slept with my brother for the first half of the night, and then with me. She must have thought she was much smaller than she really was, as she would sometimes try to lay down on top of us!

It goes without saying that we were sad to see her go the next day. We managed to get some adorable pictures of her, including the one I captured above. She is holding a toy bone in her mouth, which she carried with her practically the entire time she was here after finding it lying around our house. It originally belonged to Sookie, but because she no longer plays with it and Rage seemed to love it so much we ended up letting her take it home with her.

Oh, and I also forgot to mention that she is a service dog in-training for her daddy.

Finally starting to feel like fall outside...

It is much cooler today than it has been in a while- ok, more like forever. I love it and am relieved the heat wave is finally going away, although our Stray doesn't seem to mind hot weather at all. Yesterday (when it felt like 100 degrees out) she was happily basking in the warm rays of the sun.

However, the heat did seem to make her a bit tired...

On an unrelated note, I also found a hilarious video called Sad Cat Diary by zefrank1. It describes the sad thoughts of cats- though trust me, the video is not depressing at all!

I also included the dog version, which is just as funny!

Older picture of Sookie

I found a picture that I almost forgot I had of Sookie, which I took soon after we had adopted her. She was just a baby then, about 8 months old. She was also less chubby and a bit less hairy than she is now. Well, of course we had her groomed a number of times since then but she is currently way overdue for another (as I'm sure you all can tell from recent pictures I posted on here). Hopefully we can schedule an appointment some time this month.

She is with her then-favorite toy, which we had just brought for her at the time the picture was taken. Now, she doesn't even touch it- actually I don't think I even know where it is!

Leave me alone mom, I'm trying to sleep!

Buddies- Muffin and Stray

I let Muffin roam around out of her cage today and captured a cute shot of her and Stray on my bed. Stray always just looks at her like she doesn't know what to make of this furry little creature, but she never tries to go after her.

The sun was shining through the window so the photo is a bit bright and is not exactly the clearest shot, but I think it's still cute.

I also recorded a short video of Muffin in the bathroom. It's so short because I had to stop Sookie from trying to play with her; I was actually more worried about the dog than the guinea pig as I was afraid Muffin was going to bite her snout (and she has a hard bite, I know from experience!)

P.S. Thank you everyone for the well wishes towards my brother. My family has been talking to him, and I think he may also be going to the doctor for extra help in dealing with his issues.

Howling and peeing :)

Tonight will be my last night pet sitting for Powell and Mimi. They are such sweet dogs- I will miss them a lot (hopefully they'll need me to pet sit for them again soon)!

Whenever someone sings or plays music on an instrument (such as the piano), Powell feels the need to 'sing' along too. He does the same thing when someone howls. Only about 15 minutes ago, I managed to capture a video of him doing just that with me. He is definitely one vocal dog!

In addition, I went with my mom to Barnes & Noble today for some coffee, snacks, and reading. While I was skimming through one magazine, I saw something that made me giggle- a device called Whiz Freedom. It enables a gal to pee just like the guys do. :)

I could definitely see how this would come in handy, though... particularly during lengthy road trips!

Hanging out with Baby (and Sookie)

Today I was resting with Baby in my parents' bedroom (which has also become her room as well), where I managed to capture a few photos of her.

Here she is looking into the camera with her large yellow eyes- they are so big for her tiny face!

This one is a bit blurry because she was moving when I took it, but I love that her little teeth are showing. :)

Sookie was also in the bedroom with us, so I had to add this picture as well. She is giving me that "Get this camera out of my face so I can go to sleep" look.

Pick me up, already!

Sookie's trick

Sookie wanted to show everyone a little trick that she has mastered (sorry for the blurry quality again, my phone camera's horrible).

Feeling crappy today

I haven't been on here much for the past few days as I have been dealing with a pretty bad cold. And I didn't sleep much last night on top of that since my nose has been stuffy and running nonstop (I swear I must have gone through like 100 tissues already!). I hope to take a nap soon or at least go to bed really early tonight.

Today is my first of ten nights of pet sitting as well, so that will keep me busy. Currently I am lying down next to Powell, one of the dogs I am pet sitting for, who is napping and snoring quite loudly- and who I look forward to joining very soon!

I am really tired and need some rest so I will keep it short today, but I'll end it with an adorable picture that I found. I didn't take it, but the dog's elated expression is too cute to resist!

Wordless Wednesday!

I have seen 'Wordless Wednesdays' on quite a few pet blogs and thought that it was a great idea, so I have decided to do it on mine as well! This one is obviously not wordless, but here is a picture of Muffin the Guinea Pig hiding amongst stuffed animals that I took a few years ago (It's still my favorite pic of her!).

Also on an off-topic note, my blog is in a New Blogger Alert post on Pet Blogs United. You can check it out if you like by clicking on the link (though I'm sure that's how some of you found me too). :)

Baby

I just returned from a 2-day trip to Wildwood, New Jersey, and I've been sleeping for basically the entire day. My boyfriend, Bryan had to go to work so we had to wake up at 7:30 this morning (and I am NOT the best morning person).

Right now I am in bed watching TV with Baby the cat. Well, actually I WAS, but then Sookie chased her off the bed. Really she is just being playful, but Baby (along with pretty much all the other cats) gets very annoyed with her and tries to find escape under the bed. She actually stays under the bed quite a lot throughout the day because she is still very nervous of animals (especially our cat, Miracle who for some reason really doesn't like her) as well as people she doesn't know. Well, that's not very surprising considering the fact that she had been living outside as a stray in a neighbor's yard for years. At first, we had just been feeding her as we were reluctant about taking in another cat after having three already. Then Hurricane Sandy hit, and there was no was no way we could keep her outside in such harsh and dangerous weather, so she has been living with us ever since.

Anyhow, here is a video that I shot of her about a month ago. It's not much, just her lying on her back and looking cute. :)

Some cute pictures

Here are some cute pictures of the furbabies that I found on my sister's Facebook page...

Sookie lookin' pretty after just being groomed (she looks nothing like this now and is way overdue for another grooming).

What happened to your ears, Sookie??

Sookie and the cats gathering for food.

Sookie being a meanie and stealing food from Stray the cat. Stray certainly doesn't seem happy about it...

Stray must have had a hard day when this was taken.

Baby on her Scooby Doo pillow.

Sherbet curiously looking at the camera.

Sookie's chunky belly! It might be about time to put her on a diet.

On the job

So right now I am doing some overnight pet sitting. I've been here since last night, and the 'parents' will be back tomorrow. The one dog has been by my side pretty much since I arrived here; sometimes if I am going into another room, he will press his body against me and whine loudly as if he is trying to prevent me from going. He appears to have separation anxiety issues and doesn't want to be left alone, poor guy.

Here is a photo that I took of him about 15 minutes ago laying down in bed next to me (he's still cuddled up with me as I type).

There is also a little Dachshund who is adorable, though I haven't taken a photo of her yet. I'm coming back here to pet sit again later this month, so I'll most likely take one of her then.

Anyhow, I'm going to sign off now and watch a Netflix movie on my tablet with Powell (the dog in the photo). Have a good night, everyone!

Sherbet- continued

In my previous post, I had mentioned that I had not captured a recent video of Sherbet. So I had decided on that very day- well, yesterday- that I would create one. In the video, he is curiously looking at my hairless Chinese Crested, Sookie while hiding behind a vacuum.

Often when Sookie approaches him and tries to play with him, he gets a bit nervous and hisses with his back arched up and tries to hit her with his paw, then hides. However, when she walks away he will attempt to bravely sneak up on her. It's weird, I know.
